IN A FEW WORDS ...

The Texture Maps series echoes a common practice in the creation of computerized objects, where a totally abstract volume is first created, and then covered with a “texture” that gives it reality. Sean Raspet creates transparent abstract “compositions” in relief by means of liquid silicon and lenticular film on Plexiglas.

Sean Raspet creates a sculpture akin to a bus shelter, where all panels are Texture Maps.

Light passes through a dichromatic film adhered to the rear plate and is refracted. Colors appear on an otherwise transparent and monochrome surface. Sean Raspet creates a sculpture akin to a bus shelter, where all panels are Texture Maps. The viewer inside the sculpture is in an immersive and changing light environment. From outside, any spectator inside looks like an abstracted shape.

Sean Raspet was born in 1981 in Washington.
He lives and works in Los Angeles.
