exhibition release
From September 10 to 13, the Galerie Jérôme de Noirmont will participate for the second consecutive year to the ShContemporary fair on the stand A22 in the Shanghai Exhibition Center.
Following its participation in 2007 crowned of success, the gallery has chosen this year to present recent and unique works from all its leading artists like Fabrice Hyber or McDermott & McGough, greatly appreciated during the 2007 fair, who will unveil brand new works… Thanks to the experience of this first participation, the selection of those works has been done after a mature and lengthy reflection with the artists themselves, in order to satisfy at the very best the visitors of ShContemporary 2008.
In the same way, regarding photography, the newest works from the Iranian artist Shirin Neshat will be exhibited, her spectacular colored prints covered with hand-written ink calligraphy from the Women without men series. They will be confronted with the black and white portraits just as striking of the French photographer Valérie Belin, highly noticed today thanks to prestigious exhibitions in Europe and United States museums, and exhibited for the first time in China.
At the same time, the gallery would like to honor the geographical specificity of ShContemporary by showing works linked to Asia, such as photographs from the Shanghai series of Bettina Rheims, realized during her long trip in 2002.
Three years after having inaugurated the MOCA Shanghai with a huge retrospective, Pierre and Gilles will propose other Asiatic iconic representations, such as the portrait of the singer Sandii in La Charmeuse de Serpents (The Snakes Charmer) or of the great Japanese base-ball player Tsuyoshi Shinjo wearing a samurai suit in the manga spirit in La rage de vaincre (Eager to win).
